Gender and trade

In recent years, trade facilitation (TF) has been recognised as a key factor in trade and economic development policy. This is due to the realisation that trade facilitation can generate major benefits for the economy in terms of competitiveness and efficiency and can greatly enhance the participation of developing and transition economies in the global economy. Discussions on trade facilitation at the WTO and other international fora have greatly helped this process, bringing the issue to the highest level of political decision-making. Indeed, with trade facilitation on national political agendas, many countries are now faced with the challenge of translating this broad concept into specific implementation strategies that can achieve the expected results and economic benefits.

This edition of the Global Report on Trafficking in Persons consists of three main analytical chapters. Chapter I provides a global overview of the patterns and flows of trafficking in persons and an overview of the status of country-level legislation and the criminal justice response to the trafficking crime. Chapter II presents an analysis of trafficking in persons in the broader perspective of migration and conflict, and chapter III contains in-depth analyses by region.

This lesson aims to provide a standardised process for undertaking needs assessments on SGBV-related issues. It offers a range of tools such as sample questionnaires and checklists to guide implementation. The procedures and tools have all been developed from proven good practice from police services worldwide.

The report integrates the results of such events and numerous other gatherings, organized in Syria by the partners. It draws attention to challenges and highlights good practices related to the instit utionalization of women’s rights and gender equality principles and values in the constitution. It also emphasizes the efforts of women’s movements to include and/or preserve women’s rights and gender equality as founding principles in democratic constitut ions, and as core issues in times of transition. The role of progressive men in the effort toward the institutionalization of gender equality is also underlined.
