Stop the exploitation of migrant domestic workers- the first newsletter

This document presents the KAFA newsletter for the project, “Stop the Exploitation of Migrant Domestic Workers”. This newsletter was created to provide a space for women who work as domestic workers in Lebanon to tell each other their stories, advice, and opinions with the goal of exchanging information and connecting workers who may feel isolated and alone. The newsletter is also designed to offer useful information and to act as a directory to services available in Lebanon; this includes information on changes in Lebanese regulations and legal and social guidance. Finally, Kafa would like to improve the next edition of the newsletter and to include the stories and opinions of others wanting to share their experience working and living in Lebanon.

White Ribbon Campaign- the Kafa Newsletter - January 2012

This document presents the Kafa Newsletter - January 2012 - Issue 1, about White Ribbon Campaign. The theme of the White Ribbon Campaign for this year was: “Not Violent, Not Silent…Women and men, hand in hand to end violence against women”. KAFA focused on the approach of men speaking out against violence. The main message was that it is not enough for men only to not perpetrate violence. Rather, men should also speak out against violence they witness and act towards ending violence against women. Thus, the men participating in this campaign pledged not to commit any form of violence and to raise awareness among other men regarding this issue.

Zalfa's questions on the personal status laws

This document contains answers to questions about the personal status laws which, in Lebanon, are confessional laws that organize the personal status such as the matters of marriage, divorce, custody, guardianship, alimony and inheritance. This booklet is divided into two parts: Christian personal status laws and Muslim personal status laws. The content of this booklet is aimed at shedding the light on the most important axes of these laws and on the matters that are relevant to women and that K AFA had simplified as much as possible to make them available to all. This information is a reference material to married and unmarried women. It shall help them understand these laws and how unfair they are to women’s rights on more than one level. Women seldom ask about their rights under the current laws before marrying and they are later on surprised when marital problems occur and they bring the matter before court. This booklet can help create a better knowledge of the current personal status laws and raise awareness without necessarily waiting for problems to occur
